The Bloom before you brew : Why Blooming your coffee matters ☕️

At Colosimo Coffee, we believe great coffee isn’t just about quality beans—it’s about how you bring them to life in your cup.

Whether you're brewing with a pour-over, French press, or AeroPress at home, there's one simple but powerful technique that can elevate your brew: blooming.

---

🌱 What Is Blooming?

Blooming is the act of pre-wetting your ground coffee with just enough water to let the carbon dioxide (CO₂) escape before your full pour. This gas buildup happens naturally during roasting and can cause uneven extraction if not released.

That unevenness? It can rob your cup of clarity, smoothness, and sweetness.

🧠 How To Bloom (Colosimo Tip!)

Our team recommends the 2:1 rule to get you started:

📏 Use twice as much water as coffee for your bloom.

For example, if you’re using 20g of ground coffee, start by pouring 40g of hot water over the grounds.

⏱️ Wait about 30–45 seconds, watch the grounds rise and bubble, then proceed with the rest of your brew.

You’ll smell the aroma open up—and taste the difference in the cup.

✅ Why It Matters

✔ Smoother flavour

✔ Balanced extraction

✔ Brighter, cleaner cup

And most importantly: it brings out the best in the beans we’ve spent so much care sourcing and roasting.

🔊 Barista Tip from Colosimo Coffee:

> “Blooming is like waking the coffee up. It’s a conversation between water and bean. Be patient—it’s worth it.”

— Inna, General Manager & Lead Barista Trainer
